WAN - It is stated that the chief warden physically assaulted prisoners in Dumlu High Security Closed Prison No 1. 

 

Rights violations against prisoners in prisons continue. It is learned that the chief warder in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Closed Prison No 1 physically assaulted prisoners after threatening them "You will see what I will do to you!" a month ago. Sinan Karer, one of the prisoners who was attacked, shared his experiences in his weekly phone call with his family.

 

It is recorded that the chief warder threatened the prisoners and physically attacked 3 prisoners on the day he was on duty. It is learned that prisoners reacted to the attack and protested the attack by not participating in any activity in prison. 

 

Karer stated that the attack happened on Tuesday, 26 August and that they were not allowed to partcipate in any activity after that day. Karer emphasiseed that the newly appointed chief warden was malicious and threatened them a month ago saying "You will see what I will do to you" and this attack came after these threats. 

 

Karer called for public sensitisation about what is happening in the prison and the practices of the administration and stated that their protests against the practices will continue.
